Same Day Chest X-Ray
Available From 3rd January 2023
We can refer for same day Chest X-rays for patients to help avoid unplanned admissions. The patient must be given a printout of an X-ray form marked urgent.
Referral Criteria
Important
Chest X-rays can be requested on a SAME DAY basis at Thomas Linacre Centre and Leigh. The patient needs to arrive before 5pm.
Eligibility
Referrals are for CXR only and include patients who you may have deflected to A&E or have an acute presentation which a CXR would support your onward management in primary care.
CAUTION
Please do not refer patients that can safely wait to be appointed. Referrals outside of these criteria pose a risk to safe numbers of patients in waiting rooms and pressurises the capacity of the service.
Referral Process
Paper Referral Required
Referrals must be by paper and handed to the patient to bring to the department.
Although using paper appears counterintuitive, it is necessary to bypass the cumbersome radiology referral systems between primary and secondary care. Please give the patient a printed X-ray request marked urgent.
