Important: Avoid Using Family Members as Interpreters
You should generally avoid using a family member as an interpreter for several reasons:
- They may not be able to accurately translate medical terms
- There may be alternative agendas relating to their interpersonal relationships
- It is not encouraged by defence unions

You can call Language Line to have them interpret for you during consultations.
For telephone consultations: Call Language Line first and ask them to call the patient.
For face-to-face consultations: Call the patient in first, then call Language Line and put them on speakerphone.
